In 2011, queer south asian youth applied to ArtReach Toronto for an opportunity to use multidisciplinary arts to engage queer/trans south asian youth in Toronto, with the hope of building connections and developing skills. Dubbed “Q? Y Art?”, the program has created learning opportunities for the organizers, the space for community-building, an employment opportunity for a community member, and the bringing together of established artists with emerging ones.
With the funded program finishing its final stages, we are exploring next steps of what future programming could look like, including the possibility of the creation of a semi-regular open-crafting space. 2 individuals from the original program are continuing conversations with participants/artists from the program to think about these next steps. If you are interested in being a part of these conversations, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
